Logitech Wave Keys review: riding the ergonomic keyboard wave
In a world where typing has become an essential part of our daily lives, whether at work or at home, the importance of an ergonomic keyboard cannot be underestimated. Ergonomic keyboards, with their innovative designs, promise to reduce fatigue and increase comfort during long typing sessions. They present themselves as a solution for those suffering from hand or wrist pain, or for those simply looking for a more comfortable typing experience.
Today's test focuses on a new ergonomic keyboard model from a manufacturer that is not its first attempt. Logitech, which places several references in our selection of the best keyboards , has in fact created the Wave Keys, halfway between a classic keyboard and keyboards with a much more pronounced design.
For an ergonomic keyboard, the appearance is not shocking when unboxing. The whole thing is rather pleasant with all-plastic material, but good finishes. The set is quite compact and will be suitable for small offices. It is also quite light even if it is not intended to be moved regularly.
Logitech delivers the Wave Keys keyboard with a connection dongle, but it is also possible to connect it via Bluetooth.
The ergonomic shape is more easily seen tilted with a wave shape, hence its name. Even the wrist rest follows the waving motion. It is fixed and cannot be removed, which is rather a shame for those who would not want this accessory.
The power button is on the front with an LED indicator that lights up for just a few moments to show that the device is receiving power.
These are the two AAA batteries which are responsible for delivering the necessary power. This is not a disadvantage since the autonomy estimated by the manufacturer is two years, which is very comfortable. However, this comfort is partly due to the absence of backlighting of the keys, which is a bit of a shame for those who like to work in subdued lighting environments. The screen printing on the keys is visible correctly except in the event of reflection, particularly in the event of a backlit light source.
Two retractable feet at the front allow the device to be raised for greater comfort. This will depend on everyone's tastes, but in our case it provided an advantage in terms of hand positioning.
Options+: it really does more
When pairing, Windows 11 automatically recognized the device. All you had to do was enter a code and validate to establish the connection. The Wave Keys is also MacOS compatible and has double key markings.
You can consider using it on three different devices simply by pressing one of the three assignment keys at the top left of the keyboard. The devices can be found in the Options+ software.
Installation of the software is optional, but it provides access to settings allowing you to customize the operation of certain keys, deactivate others or save settings.
The most interesting remains the possibility of assigning another action to 13 different keys. This can also be done depending on the application you are using.
Quick learning
Unlike other ergonomic keyboards that split the keyboard in two like the Logitech ERGO K860, learning to type is quite quick. However, you have to change your way of grasping to fully benefit from it. Typing is not too noisy for a keyboard with classic keys and the contact is pleasant.
With the presence of the wrist rest, the advantage is to use it while avoiding raising your wrists while typing. For those who don't have typing difficulties, it's hard to say if this provides any real benefit. For others looking for an ergonomic keyboard that is easier to learn than the K860, Logitech may have found the right measure with the Wave Keys.
